On a warm summer’s day in the heart of Devon, April & Lucy were getting ready for their wedding in neighbouring quant little stone cottages, with this close proximity I suggested a ‘first look’ which is an American tradition that I’ve discovered by photographing some of my many destination weddings around the world, it’s ultimately where the happy couple share a quiet moment and glimpse each other before the official wedding ceremony, this always makes the most treasurable photos and is a perfect way to calm those pre wedding nerves.

The wedding location was effortlessly beautiful surrounded by nature, worlds away from what I imagined a registry office in the centre of Exeter would be…a little log cabin hidden in the woods, with rows of chairs for the wedding guests in the shade, alongside a flowing river and a chorus of birds in the background.

The reception was a short drive to Ullacombe Farm on the outskirts of Exeter where the wedding party enjoyed an informal meal in a converted barn. This small intimate wedding reflected the couple in every way; elegant, modest and naturally beautiful…
